Your Computer -

What type of computer is right for you? Many options are available for the consumer, these days. Computers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so how do you know which one is right for you? It all depends on what you are going to use it for.

For example, what if you simply surf the web, occasionally use the word processor, or check your email? In this case, a low cost PC computer is fine for you. You should be able to find a low cost computer for around five hundred dollars or less these days.

However, if you're going to play the latest state of the art games, use sophisticated computer graphics software(such as 3D Studio Max); etc then you should buy a much higher quality computer. These computers can range from two to three thousand dollars or more.

Should you purchase a PC or Mac? Well, that depends. Either will do, but the Mac may cost you a little more if you buy it new. Yes, Macs are less likely(for now) to be infected by computer viruses. The reason for this is because PCs still dominate the computer market, which means virus writers design the virus code specifically for PCs.

This means that if Macs dominated the computer market, then PCs would be a safer alternative because virus writers would target the Macs. It's all about the numbers. I don't know the exact figures, but PCs are still probably around eighty to ninety percent of the computer market.

I don't really have a preference between the two. Both Macs and PCs have there good points and bad points. For the Macs some good points are that they are safer from computer viruses, customer support is good, and they are supposedly easier for the typical person to use and learn.

Some bad points are that there is a slight learning curve if you're coming from Windows, some people place Macs on too high of a pedestal, and they are not completely immune to computer viruses.

In the past, I would have said that another weakness for the Macs is that they can't play most computer games because computer games are typically designed for PCs. However, the latest Mac operating system now has the ability to run both the Windows operating system and the Mac operating system so computer games can now run just fine on the Mac. I'm uncertain how this will affect the computer virus immunity that Mac boasts about.

As for PCs, some good points are that they are cheaper, and some programs work better on a PC. Some disadvantages to the PCs are that they are more susceptible to computer viruses, and they can have more glitches(the blue screen of death, for example).

Should you buy a desktop or a laptop computer? Well, this is a fairly easy choice. If you are on the go a lot and want to take your computer with you, then a laptop is fine for you. Laptops will cost albeit more than a desktop, but they are still affordable(and becoming cheaper each passing day).

You can probably find a decent PC laptop for around five or six hundred dollars. It just depends on what you want. Desktops are even cheaper, and if you prefer to leave your computer at home then this is the type for you.

Some good places to buy computers are Newegg.com, Amazon.com; Apple.com. Remember to do your research and see what other people think about the product. Most company websites have a place on their site where people can rate the product and leave comments.

Take advantage of these and read them! You can also take advantage of websites that specialize in rating computers and other electronic products. A few examples would be PC World.com and CNET.com. Happy computer hunting, and I hope this article was informative for you.
